The rise of smart buildings

How technology is revolutionising office spaces...

We are excited about the future of office design, particularly the integration of smart technologies. As technology continues to evolve, smart buildings are offering numerous benefits in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and employee experience. Here’s just a few reasons we will see the rise of smart buildings:

1. Energy Efficiency:

Smart buildings utilise advanced systems to increase energy efficiency. They do this by optimising various functions, including lighting, climate control, security, and energy management. These technologies help reduce operational costs and improve overall building efficiency. An example of this is smart sensors turning off lighting and heating in rooms which are not being used.

2. Sustainability:

The environment is at the heart of smart building technology. The use of solar and other renewable energy sources aid businesses to lower carbon footprint. While automated systems can monitor and reduce energy consumption, manage water usage, and minimise waste.

3. Employee Satisfaction:

Smart buildings create a more comfortable and personalised work environment. Employees can control their own workspace settings, such as temperature and lighting, through mobile apps or smart devices.

4. Security:

Smart building security can be fascinating:

At the simple level CCTV can be used to monitor activity in the building.

From security passes to biometric authentication, it’s now possible to control who accesses different areas of the building in a multitude of ways.

And at the advanced level, AI uses ‘predictive software to enable proactive threat mitigation’, ensuring some of the most secure facilities in the world stay safe (3).

There are many more ways in which smart buildings are transforming how we operate day to day, keeping up to date is a full-time job in itself!
